The beginning of a story

Any story that hopes to be good needs to have certain elements right from the start, as per certain books I’ve read on the craft:

  • start as close to conflict or action as possible.
  • introduce characters and make the reader empathize with them.
  • set the environment or theme of the story.
  • hook the reader.

With these points in mind, and on paper, the chances of the story being well-received increase.
