Strengthen those neural networks by firing them often

We are creatures of habit and the principal way habits grow in us is in our neural connections.

Neuroscientists say that when we do a specific action, a cluster of neurons fire and that firing is associated with that particular action.

The more you repeat that action, the frequent the neurons fire. Each time it gets more natural for the brain as a whole to do that action as the neural circuit gets stronger.

Keep this in mind the next time you want to keep some habit alive inside you. The good ones. (I am sure you are not striving hard to smoke that next cigarette.)

You may not always have to perform a habit daily. Firing its associated neurons once in a while can be enough as well. This is my hypothesis, but it needs more research.

The frequent the action, the stronger the connections, the easier the habit.

But even if the action isn’t regular, the neural connections are there. You have to make sure to fire them before they are connected strongly in some other habit.
