Stoics appreciate life
Life comes in a range of difficulty levels like video games: from easy to extreme mode.
We do not get to choose which level we are born in. We can somewhat level up through the game as we play and improve our condition; some advance more than others.
But stoics appreciate whatever mode they get. Stoics can be kings and acknowledge the role of luck and how fickle everything they possess is, and they can be beggars and be grateful for a single coin from a stranger.
Only rare people are born stoic though. Others learn the art of stoic living as they wade through life. It is like physical fitness. Rare individuals are gifted with naturally muscular bodies but, anyone, with regular exercise, can become stronger and muscular.
We often forget or never learn to appreciate what we have. It gives an open doorway for different kinds of depression to sneak into our minds. But by practising the art of gratitude for our lives, no matter how crappy, we can take our short journey of life in peace.
