Serial killers
After watching the Mindhunter series on Netflix, I began reading more about serial killers. Today I explored into the history of known serial killers in India.
The insight into their psyche, as much as we know, is so disturbing. They derive pleasure by doing heinous acts, and just like we perform all our actions to maximize pleasure in our lives, they feel compelled to commit atrocities on other human beings or animals to derive their pleasure. Of course, there is a spectrum here too.
I came to know that there have been many unsolved serial murder cases. It chills me to the bone to think that those people still walk free and lived free lives despite committing the worst of crimes. It also makes me think that those who were caught and convicted were only done so because of our system of law. That is one aspect of civilization. Think about what such a person could do before the rise of civilizations and when no laws ruled the land. Humans roamed the lands in tribes and were nomads. Such a person could easily do a lot of damage to the tribe and still get away with it easily. Everyone would just suspect each other for the rest of their lives. I wonder if this was the case, or if the dynamics were different.
Anyways, we should learn more about them to avoid more such occurrences in the future.
