Rahul Gandhi needs to distance himself from the media
Indian National Congress has faced humiliating defeats in the elections from 2014 and they have barely managed to hold on to their states. For the past six years, they have been trying to push Rahul as a young leader of the party and even promoting him to be the INC’s prime candidate for the post of Prime Minister.
But that failed miserably as we all know.
Currently, there is a wave of anti-nepotism across the country and Rahul and the Gandhis must take careful steps if they want to stay in power.
They need to give in to the demands of other congress leaders and let them manage the party. That will send the message that the Gandhis are not hungry for power and are not afraid to lose it or give it to someone else.
Rahul’s image has been obliterated by the opposition. Even the INC’s leaders’ words supporting Rahul seem hollow and farcical. It is almost like they want to keep the Gandhis pleased and happy. Rahul has become the butt of memes and INC has to accept that the BJP IT cell is good at making fun of him.
This is why Rahul needs to move away from the public eye. His time is not here yet. India does not need a young leader right now. He needs to slowly go away from the public eye and do political work below the radar. He must occasionally give glimpses into his hard work on social media which will create an aura of mystery around him. He must train himself in the art of influencing and get a strong team of PR managers like the BJP did. Clearly, INC’s PR people are not doing a good job.
Then after a decade or two, he can slowly make a comeback when the time is right. When the country will be economically ravaged and people struggle against unemployment and starvation, he can swoop back in the political picture, creating an image of a messiah. In all those years, people will have forgotten all about his jokes and failures and people will beg for him to return and the supreme post of this country will be a cinch.
