Perseverance has touched down on Mars!

About 20 hours ago, the NASA rover Perseverance successfully and safely touched down on Mars and I watched its live telecast on YouTube.

It was an amazing experience, feeling the scientists’ and engineers’ vicarious thrill as their years’ worth of hard work paid off.

Now the rover’s actual work begins though. The smart people at NASA found the best possible spot for Perseverance to study whether Mars had any kind of life forms billions of years ago. The Jezero crater has all the evidence that it was once a crater lake and the inlet of it also has perfectly preserved deposits. Those places are one of the best places to find dead life signatures.

If the rover finds any solid incontrovertible proof of life on Mars, it is going to change the way we see everything.
