I’ve made experimentation a daily habit, and the benefits are mind-blowing! 💡 Here are 12 lessons I’ve learned that might change the way you approach life:

  1. You might have read about some advice. But you won’t know if it works for you until you experiment with it. Some things in life don’t apply to everyone. Anyone jumping off of a building will fall down, but not everyone will be able to quit smoking by gradual reduction in cigarettes.
  2. You learn that there are can be many methods of achieving the same goal.
  3. You do not get attached to what you feel is right, and seek the truth. You must always be wary about confirmation bias. You give more importance to what works, and not to what your mind tells you.
  4. Science works by elimination. And by testing ideas and experimenting, you learn to quickly eliminate those that don’t work.
  5. You develop better critical thinking because you see ideas objectively.
  6. You do not shy away from problems. If life throws lemons at you, you start building recipes with them. You understand that by experiment, you have a better chance of arriving at solutions, if they exist.
  7. You grow confident at your skills and knowledge. And you know that if something that you thought was true is proven wrong, you can immediately change your mind.
  8. You learn a lot more by doing in life. Experiments teach you to do a lot more and learn hands on. By reducing the difference between action and feedback, you accelerate your learning and growth.
  9. You develop an edge. Very few people have the ability to objectively conduct experiments in different walks of life. Experimentation is life long. It is never-ending. And that is why people don’t incorporate in their daily life. It is hard for humans to see the point of something that won’t provide tangible returns.
  10. Experimentation makes you more likely that you will innovate and discover new ways and ideas.
  11. You don’t fear failure. As you will learn that failure is just finding one way that does not work, to echo the famous quote by Thomas Edison. “I have not failed 10,000 times — I’ve successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work.”
  12. You will find life exciting in every stage of life, because there are always fun experiments to do. You will welcome boredom, because you know that it will give you ideas for finding something new.
